The role
As an Engineering Manager for the Developer Experience team, you will lead the group responsible for the technology platform that powers Epidemic Sound’s backend services. The team has spent the last period laying the foundation for our microservice architecture with templating and API standardizations. They are now moving into a phase focused on maturing the platform and ensuring it truly serves the needs of our engineering organization.
This role is a blend of people leadership, technical strategy, and internal product management. You will lead an established, and growing, team of six experienced engineers, including a Staff Engineer. Together, you own critical infrastructure such as our API frameworks, authentication systems, CDN, caching, and Go-based service templates.
Since the team does not have a dedicated Product Manager, you will take on that responsibility together with the Staff Engineer. This means you will be the bridge between your team’s technical output and the rest of the company, ensuring the tools you build actually improve the daily lives of our engineers.
What you’ll do
Manage and mentor a team of experienced engineers, helping them navigate complex technical challenges while fostering a healthy, collaborative team dynamic.
Act as the product owner for the platform, identifying developer pain points across the company and turning them into a clear, prioritized roadmap.
Navigate the wider organization to influence other teams, advocate for best practices, and ensure the platform is adopted effectively.
Provide technical perspective and guidance to the team, ensuring the platform is scalable and reliable as we continue our move away from legacy systems.
Who you are
You are an experienced leader who understands how to navigate team dynamics to turn talented individuals into a high-performing, unified group.
You have a solid grasp of what a modern engineering platform looks like and likely have a background in building or managing platforms and service architectures.
You have a product mindset. You understand that Developer Experience is about more than just tools; it’s about creating workflows that are intuitive and efficient.
You are comfortable operating outside the immediate team. You know how to build relationships across an organization to drive initiatives forward and influence technical culture.
You understand modern software engineering practices and are familiar with the challenges of maintaining and evolving a cloud-based infrastructure.
It would also be music to our ears if you have:
Experience working with Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
Familiarity with Go-based environments and microservice patterns.
Past experience in roles that required a high degree of internal stakeholder management or product ownership.
An interest in on-call and incident management processes.
Knowledge of IaC and Kubernetes.
Equal opportunity employer
